New features on Life Fitness’ integrated LCD console |
SCHILLER PARK, Ill. – Oct. 14, 2004 – Life Fitness, the leading manufacturer of a full line of cardiovascular and strength-training equipment, today at the Club Industry trade show announced the addition of four new features on its integrated LCD console: an FM radio tuner; a user language selection option; a Custom Workouts program; and a secure channel for facility-provided video content. Consoles with the new features will be available on Life Fitness’ 95Te and 97Te treadmills, 95Xe total-body elliptical cross-trainers, 95Ce Lifecycle upright exercise bikes, 95Re Lifecycle recumbent exercise bikes and 95Se stairclimbers.
“These improvements are great examples of Life Fitness’ commitment to delivering technologically advanced equipment,” said Bob Quast, senior director, cardiovascular product management at Life Fitness. “The new features will help facilities attract more members and differentiate themselves from the competition as well as enhance the user’s workout experience.”
New features benefit everyone
Equipped with an integrated Phillips tuner, the enhanced LCD console lets users listen to local FM radio stations (facilities need to supply equipment required for signal reception) via touch-screen controls and standard headphones.
In addition, facilities have the option to make available eight different languages – Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese and Spanish – so end-users can choose their preferred
language for selecting program options and reading workout data. This new language selection feature is particularly important for facilities that have culturally diverse membership bases.
The Custom Workouts program allows personal trainers to create and save six unique workouts for members. Different workout parameters can be set for each minute of the workout, including speed, incline and target heart rate percentages for the treadmills, and level or target heart rate percentages for the total-body elliptical cross-trainers, Lifecycle exercise bikes and stairclimbers. The program also allows trainers to personalize workout names and enables users to preview the workout before selecting it.
Finally, the new secure channel feature allows facilities to deliver their own video content, such as closed circuit television and pay-per-view programming (video source and corresponding equipment required), and enables operators to password protect the channel.
Introduced in 2003, Life Fitness’ integrated LCD console is powered by Intel technology and lets exercisers custom select and watch live TV programming while working out (coaxial cable connection required). Sophisticated touch-screen controls allow for simple navigation among program options and workout data. The screen offers TV-quality video on a large, 12.1-inch viewing area (11 inches by 12 inches).Availability, Price and Warranty
Life Fitness cardio equipment with the enhanced, integrated LCD console will be available in November 2004. The manufacturer’s suggested retail prices for products with the integrated LCD consoles are as follows: the 95Te treadmill is $8,999; the 97Te treadmill is $9,999; the 95Xe total-body elliptical cross-trainer is $6,599; the 95Ce Lifecycle upright exercise bike is $4,899; the 95Re Lifecycle recumbent exercise bike is $4,999; and the 95Se stairclimber is $4,899.
